Web development uses various programming languages including HTML, XHTML, ASP, Perl, PHP, C++, Java, and CSS. Often, Web development also uses scripting languages such as JavaScript and PHP, although they are not as common or used as programming languages.

Web development also involves adding functionality to a web site by means of adding modules, scripts, or plug-ins to the web page as it is developed. Web development also includes web hosting, design, coding, testing, and modification.

Web programming and web development are two separate things. There is a lot of confusion between the two, but they are actually very similar. Web programming deals with all the programming aspects of creating a Website for the Internet, while web development deals with the actual design and layout of the website.
